The cliffs run from the Port du Lude to Saint Jean le Thomas; the Cabane Vauban, a stone-built lookout cabin, more or less demarcates the first third. When Édouard Herriot and General Eisenhower, visiting within a few years of each other, set eyes on the panoramic view of Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay from these broom- and gorse-covered cliffs, they are said to have exclaimed: "This is the most beautiful kilometre in France!"
