Four descendants of the prophet Muhammad are said to be buried here, 6km west of Bukhara. From the 16C on, Bukharan nobles, naturally, selected this holy site as their own final resting place and had some prestigious mausoleums built here. The necropolis was entirely restored after independence: the domes have been restored to their former glory and the portals have regained their ceramic decoration. You can expect it to be crowded, as this is still a popular place of pilgrimage.
